Islamabad, January 10: Pakistan successfully test fired its first submarine launched Cruise Missile named Babur-III, on Monday. Missile is capable of carrying nuclear warhead up to 450 kilometers; it is a sea based variant of Babur-II which is Ground-Launched-Ground Missile as claimed by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR).
Second successful strike of a missile is a major scientific nuclear milestone achieved by Pakistan. It is a manifestation of the strategy measured response to the nuclear strategies adopted by Pakistan’s neighbors. Second Strike capability gives Pakistan a great edge over India; it is the capability only the World’s super powers like USA, China and Russia have.
Babur-III was test-fired from an underwater mobile location in the Indian Ocean which hit its target with a precise accuracy, said DG ISPR. It assimilates state-of-the-art technologies, comprising underwater controlled propulsion and advanced guidance and navigation features, terrain and scene matching systems, duly augmented by Global Navigation.
India is also building sea based ballistic missile meantime; analysts believe that it is better than the under development sea-based ballistic missile of India.
According to military officials, “ The missile features terrain hugging and sea skimming flight capabilities to evade hostile radars and air defenses, in addition to certain stealth technologies, in an emerging regional Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) environment”. Referring to India’s Ballistic Missile Defense; it is clear that is designed to defeat India’s Defense shield.
Test was witnessed by Gen. Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chairman Joint Chiefs of staff Committee, Lt Gen. Mazhar JJamie, DG Strategic Plans Division, the commander of the Naval Strategic Force Command, scientists, senior officials and engineers from the Scientific Strategic Organizations.
